Health Benefits

Dancing is one of the oldest forms of social activity known to mankind. It is a unique form of exercise because it provides the cardio-vascular benefits of an aerobic exercise while also allowing you to engage in a social activity and communicating with other people. Dancing has been found to help to:

  • Reduce stress
  • Burn calories
  • Improve lower limb strength
  • Increase coordination

The U.S. National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) also identifies numerous health benefits of dancing, which include:

  • Lowering the risk of coronary heart disease
  • Decrease of blood pressure
  • Weight management
  • Strengthening of the bones of the legs and hips

As a social activity dancing can contribute to high self-esteem and a positive outlook. Dancing provides many opportunities to meet other people. It can also build social skills. Because physical activity reduces stress and tension, regular dancing gives an overall sense of well-being.
