Health Benefits

Cycling is an activity that can be enjoyed by both children and adults alike. It can be a great way to explore the countryside while getting a good work out at the same time. Just like swimming it is a low impact exercise unless you go off road or do mountain biking. As a predominately aerobic exercise (except for those hills) it burns a significant amount of calories and promotes your cardio-vascular fitness. However, you should be aware that this is less than in running and that you might have to double the exercise duration to get the same physiological effects.

Health benefits of cycling also include:

  • The prevention of coronary heart disease and lowering blood pressure.
  • Losing weight.
  • Strengthening of muscles, especially the upper thigh muscles, backside and calf muscles.
  • Cycling enhances the level of general endurance.
  • The relaxation attained while riding a bicycle alleviates stress.
  • Cycling as a daily life activity can prove to be the best mode to move around your local area without any difficulty.
